Bob's Computics (Computer Science)
We consider
computer science the study of computation, information,
and automation. Actually, we dislike the term, as we do the term informatics.
The first because it has the word science in it (as opposed to physics,
mathematics, ...) and computer refers more to a tool.
We dislike the second because we feel that the emphasis is more
on the information.
We coin the term
computics (although it may suggest an emphasis on
computation), as the scientific study of computation and its application in
information processing and automation.
From this, we can derive the words:
computicist, for a scientist in the field of computics, and computician, for
someone who applies computics (the engineer).
It is interesting that this was already coined in 1995 (30 years ago)
by George McKee in
Computer Science or simply 'computics'.
Instead of computicist he used the word computist, but we consider a computist
someone who does computations (the craftsman).
Projects I have beem working on over the years.
